Gaming is a crucial part of the App Store's financial success, according to a gaming report from Sensor Tower. In 2024, Apple's App Store ecosystem facilitated $1.3 trillion in global commerce, with digital goods and services like games representing a significant share.

Apple doesn't collect commission on over 90% of that total. Digital purchases remain a major direct revenue source for the App Store.

These mechanics encourage sustained spending, benefiting platform owners like Apple that collect a share of each transaction.

Apple's ecosystem supports monetization through integrated payments, centralized account management, and a large global active device base. The infrastructure efficiently monetizes users and generates recurring services revenue for the company.

Gaming revenue supports Apple's broader services growth

Apple has increasingly relied on services revenue to complement its hardware business. The App Store, subscriptions, and digital transactions provide recurring income tied to Apple's installed base rather than new device sales.
